Tokyo Dark now on Collective!

And now for something entirely different… today's new Square Enix Collective pitch is Tokyo Dark, a horror adventure game that combines Western point-and-click games with Japanese visual novels.

The trailer alone is enough to give me goosebumps (make sure you listen to it with headphones!)

Tokyo Dark sure poses a lot of pretty dark questions for an adventure game - including suicide, institutionalised sexism and increasing nationalism. On top of this, Detective Itō, the game's protagonist, questions her own sanity as she must wonder if the living shadows she sees in the dark are real or part of her imagination. This all links into Detective Itō's mysterious past that the team behind Tokyo Dark isn't willing to reveal just yet.

What makes Tokyo Dark stand out for me is the promise of branching story paths so that different players may experience quite different endings depending on their choices, particularly as each of these will change Detective Itō. By the way, do try and keep her sane will you? You will be equipped with a gun, but firing it could have serious consequences including counselling and trauma therapy.

Tokyo Dark is currently in development for Windows and Mac, but depending on its success it may also come to other platforms. The people behind it are very eager to hear your feedback, so do check out the pitch on Collective now and let us know your thoughts!
