Did you see the latest trailer for FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES Remastered Edition?

It gives you the most detailed look at the action RPG yet, with lots of information about the game’s story, the tribes you can play as, how combat works and more.

But perhaps the most attention-grabbing addition is highlighted at the end of the trailer: there will be a Lite edition of the game. Take a look:

The video lays out facts quite eloquently, but we thought it might be useful to go into a little more detail here and answer some questions you may have. Starting with…

What exactly is FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES Remastered Edition Lite?

FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES is regarded as a classic, an enchanting tale of adventure and exploration - but is it the game for you? The Lite version of the game will give you an easy way to find the answer to that question (spoilers: we’re fairly sure it is).

Essentially, the Lite version of the game lets you play through a substantial chunk of the start of the game, and try out the various enhancements that have been made for this edition, including new voiceovers, improved graphics and an updated soundtrack.

Oh - and it’s completely free. Probably should have led with that.

What’s included in FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES Remastered Edition Lite?

We’ve created this version so you can experience exactly what the game is before you make any decisions about whether to purchase it.

To that end, you can create a character from any of the tribes in the full game, and play through the first three dungeons. These are large areas full of dangerous foes and tempting treasures, and they’ll give you ample opportunity to play with the game’s various mechanics, including the enormously satisfying real time combat system.

You’ll also be able to take the game online, which brings us to our next question…

Can I play the Lite Edition with others online?

You can! In fact, we strongly encourage you to - FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES Remastered Edition truly excels as a multiplayer adventure and the Lite version offers a commitment-free way to experience this unique gameplay.

Up to four players with the Lite edition can form a caravan and play through the three dungeons together - again at no additional cost (although please note that for PS4 and Switch, you’ll need active subscriptions to their online services to play online).

As with the full version of the game, the Lite edition fully supports crossplay, so Switch owners can play against PS4 users, PS4 users can team up with those on smartphones and so on.

Now, if one of the group owns the full version of the game, things get even more interesting…

Can Lite users play online with owners of the full game?

They can indeed - and they can play beyond the opening three dungeons.

If one player has the full edition of FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES Remastered Edition, they can invite anyone with the Lite version to join their caravan. While connected, that party will be able to journey through up to 13 massive dungeons.

In other words, you only need one full version of the game to play online in a party of four. That said, if those with the Lite edition want to continue their adventures offline, they will need to upgrade to the complete game. But rest assured, you can transfer your saved progress to the full game!

When will FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES Remastered Edition Lite be available?

The Lite version of the RPG will launch on Switch and PS4 alongside the full versions of the game: August 27, 2020 (mobile release date subject to change).

There’s no specific ‘Lite’ version for iOS and Android - in these cases, the game will be available as a free download as standard, with the same content and functionality as the Lite version. You’ll be able to purchase the full game as an in-app purchase.

Hopefully that’s answered a few questions about the Lite Edition. It’s a fantastic way to try the game before buying, not to mention an easy way to get a full party together online if not all of your friends have the full game.

It’s not long now until the game’s out, so make sure you follow FINAL FANTASY on social media for news and updates about this amazing game.
