Happy Holidays from Tokyo RPG Factory (and a few other things!)

By Square Enix Team

Hi everyone!

I have a few things to talk about today so I’m going to try and get straight to the point! First of all, Tokyo RPG Factory have handed me a very important message to pass on to all of you, so without further ado…

For us at Tokyo RPG Factory, the year 2016 became a memorable year with the launch of I am Setsuna. We will continue developing the games to deliver you unforgettable experience in the New Year. We hope you have a wonderful holiday and a Happy New Year.

Please enjoy playing I am Setsuna, a good title for the winter.

Warmest regards,

Tokyo RPG Factory

The team have even created a unique sprite based piece of art to celebrate!

What do you think of it? I think Endir and Aeterna in particular look really good! I haven’t received any cards this year (…yet) so if you want to print this out and send it to me I’ll happily accept!

As a small present to everyone we’re releasing the third (and sadly, final) I am Setsuna Q&A video today, and you can watch it right here. There are options for captions in English, French, German, Italian & Spanish so make sure you enable closed captions in YouTube!

To finish off today we have the results of the I am Setsuna fan Box Art competition! Check out the winning artwork below with some notes from Tokyo RPG Factory explaining what in particular they liked about each piece.

Winner – We felt that this was a very carefully drawn piece with a great warmth to it. Choosing to depict the moment just before Endir takes Setsuna’s hand also has a big impact. We feel that the way each viewer looking at this picture  will wonder what happens next and imagine the story that continues from here, will he take her hand or not?, shares a lot with the way we approach making games at TRF, and that is why we picked this entry for the main prize.

Runner-up – This illustration shows an effective juxtaposition between Endir’s fierce expression and Setsuna’s warm and gentle one. It has been diligently drawn, right down to the fine details, and the warmth the picture has is really appealing. The way that night and day are so boldly split is also interesting. It is also a picture that each viewer will imagine their own unique story behind, and in that we are very happy it shares the ethos of Tokyo RPG Factory.

Runner-up – You can tell that Setsuna is deep in prayer from the way her hair is floating up, and it makes this an image which leaves a very strong impression. The bold touches in the line drawing style give an effective rendering to the floating hair and also ties in to the overall strength of the piece. Having the band of comrades done in entirely line drawings on the back cover is also effective.

Runner-up – Keeping the background limited to a restricted colour palette of white and silver really emphasises Setsuna’s reds and makes this a picture that leaves a strong impression. Her facial expression is also highly unique. The lone autumn leaf is also a great accent that brings across a feeling of melancholy.

I’m sure you’ll join me in congratulating the winners and extending a big thank you to everyone who entered the competition! Thanks to everyone for reading and don’t forget to watch the three I am Setsuna Q&A videos. It’s a rare opportunity to listen to what devs have to say about their own game after release so make sure you check them out!

From everyone at Tokyo RPG Factory and Square Enix as a whole – Happy Holidays! We all hope you have a lovely New Year!

If you haven't already played it - I am Setsuna is available on both PSN and Steam right now!
