Square Enix games coming to consoles and PC in 2024!

It’s been quite a year for gamers, but it’s not over yet! Here are some of the titles still on the way in 2024!
By Duncan Heaney

2024 has been pretty good for gamers so far. FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH, for example, offered an incredible early experience - a sprawling, beautiful, and delightfully surprising RPG that’s full of unforgettable moments. It’s no wonder that it’s among the most critically acclaimed games of the year!

But we’re not done yet. In fact, 2024 has some awesome new adventures on the way. From legendary RPGs to murder mysteries, here’s what’s still to come from Square Enix this year - and why we can’t wait for you to experience them for yourselves:

Visions of Mana

Coming August 29, 2024, to:

  • PS5 / PS4
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • Windows
  • Steam

This brand-new adventure is set in a vibrant world full of lovable characters and ferocious (and equally lovable) monsters. Add the beautiful visuals, satisfyingly crunchy combat and memorable music and it’s everything you could possibly want from an action RPG.

You play primarily as Val - a young man from a small village, who chooses to accompany his childhood friend Hinna on her pilgrimage to the Mana Tree. As you journey, you’ll be joined by a growing party of allies and able to create your own three-person dream team from the five playable characters. More importantly, you can control them both in the wide-open areas of the world and in combat - and switch between them at any time..

You have an enormous amount of customization over your party too thanks to the Elemental Vessels. These awesome artifacts allow you to both traverse the world and take on foes, as well as change each character’s class, weapon type and more!

You can get a tantalizing taste of all this in the new demo - available now on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Windows and Steam. Those with demo save data who purchase the full game on the same system will get access to three weapons for Val once Val becomes playable in Chapter 1 of the full game.

If you like what you play, the game is available to pre-order now. Do so, and you’ll get the Brave Blade - a sword that Val can use in-game as digital pre-order bonus.

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven

Coming October 24, 2024, to:

  • PS5 / PS4
  • Nintendo Switch
  • Steam

If you’re looking for an RPG that dares to be different, then check out Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven.

It’s a full 3D remake of the once Japan-exclusive and wildly influential Romancing SaGa 2, taking that game’s ideas and refining them to create a new adventure that hearkens back to classic RPGs while feeling like a fresh, modern game in its own right.

So, what’s different about it? For one thing, you don’t just play as one protagonist - you follow a lineage of emperors in their ongoing battle against the Seven Heroes of ancient myth. When one emperor or his entire party fall in battle, abdicates, or certain story events take place entailing a change of the era, you’ll choose a new emperor to ascend to the throne. Skills can even be inherited, making for deep and satisfying progression.

There’s equal freedom in the game’s non-linear structure. You can take on the (not-so-heroic) Seven Heroes in any order, with the story changing depending on the decisions you make along the way. It’s your story and you get to steer it.

Battles are deeply strategic, with turn order and enemies’ weaknesses playing a significant role in the strategy. It’s also the most accessible SaGa game yet, as new difficulty options allow for a more casual experience than the original. That said. SaGa vets should rest assured the original challenge is still there if they want it.

If you’ve been craving a classic-style RPG, but with modern presentation and conveniences, this is one to pre-order now:

Life is Strange: Double Exposure

Coming October 29, 2024, to:

  • PS5
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • Windows
  • Steam

Coming 2024 to:

  • Nintendo Switch

Max Caulfield is a young photographer-in-residence at the prestigious Caledon University. She’s building her life there when tragedy strikes: her friend Safi is murdered.

There’s no murder weapon, no footprints in the snow, no suspects, and no motive... it’s an impossible crime. When Max discovers she has the power to Shift between two parallel timelines, one where Safi still lives, she resolves to discover the truth and bring the perpetrator to justice.

If you’ve never played a Life is Strange game before, then put this at the top of your wishlist because it promises to be the best yet. It features the return of Max - the beloved protagonist of the original Life is Strange (though you don’t need to play that game to enjoy this one).

She’s older, wiser, and her evolved powers allow for all kinds of exciting gameplay possibilities. For example, learning something about a character in one timeline could give you the knowledge to tease out their secrets in the other, a locked door may be bypassed by switching timelines, objects can be brought with you when you Shift, and – well, there’s much more we don’t want to spoil here.

Of course, all the hallmarks of Life is Strange are also present and correct - a story that changes with your choices, a focus on the characters and their relationships, great music by some of the best Indie bands and artists, shocking twists and turns, and everything else that has made the series so acclaimed.

It’s available to preorder now:

Of course, that beauty’s not just skin deep. The game has also been enhanced with new features and quality- of- life improvements that make it feel up to date, including voice acting and a symphonic soundtrack!

It’s available to preorder now:

FANTASIAN Neo Dimension

Coming this Winter to:

  • PS5/PS4
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • Nintendo Switch
  • Steam

The father of FINAL FANTASY, Hironobu Sakaguchi, returns with FANTASIAN Neo Dimension! He’s joined by the legendary FINAL FANTASY series composer Nobuo Uematsu to create a turn-based RPG with some bold new ideas, now with English and Japanese voice acting as well as an added difficulty level!

The protagonist, Leo, wakes up from a massive explosion only to find himself lost in a strange land. With only a single memory to guide him, he sets out on a journey to unravel the mysteries of a bizarre mechanical infection that’s slowly engulfing all known to man.

You’ll guide Leo and a growing band of allies through more than 150 hand-crafted dioramas, combining 3D animated characters with beautiful and evocative physical environments. You’ll traverse deserts, forests and much more beyond.

Combat is turn-based, and deeply strategic. You attack enemies with straight and curved lines, using the right skills and trajectory of attacks to take out multiple foes efficiently. This is particularly satisfying in combination with the Dimengeon System - a feature that lets you send previously encountered enemies to another dimension rather than take them on there and then.

The Dimengeon Machine which holds these enemies is a handy tool to streamline combat while also allowing you to explore the world uninterrupted. However, it can only hold so many enemies – once it’s full you’ll have to fight all of those previously encountered enemies at once.

You’ll need to decide when to fight the enemies that you’ve previously stored. Fight small groups bit by bit or tackle a large group all at once – the choice is yours! These Dimengeon battles also come with unique enhancements known as Dimengeon Gimmicks which make these massive encounters super-fun!

There’s no release date yet, but the game is coming this Winter!
