Hello again, DRAGON QUEST fans!

Can you believe it’s already September? You know what that means, right? We’re only a little over one month away from the launch of DRAGON QUEST HEROES! How exciting! So today I thought I’d talk about some of the aspects of the game that don’t always get the spotlight, but are really what make the game stand out.

There’s actually a lot of depth to the combat system, starting with the fact that there’s actually two control schemes. There’s “Quick,” for those of you who just want to mash buttons and watch cool stuff happen, and “Slick,” if you prefer the rush of doing all the special moves for yourself. So whether you’re used to DRAGON QUEST as a turn-based RPG of if you like action games, there’s a control scheme for everybody!

On top of that, there’s the really cool ability to switch between your party of four characters at any time. If you would rather control Luceus or Aurora, or your favorite heroes from the DRAGON QUEST series, all you have to do is press the L2 button to switch around. Our friends at KOEI TECMO GAMES ω-Force (Omega Force) have made it really easy to experience playing as the whole team!

But the best part is that you have a lot of strategy you can add to the battles because of the monsters! That’s where your Monster Medals come in to play. There are two types of coins that you can pick up when monsters drop them. One of them is sort of like a FINAL FANTASY summon. It’ll summon the monster on the medal to do huge damage, inflict status ailments, or heal the party! These are great for when the odds are a little too much to handle!

The second type of Monster Medal will summon the monster as an ally on the field, and they’ll stay and fight where you tell them! Some missions will have you running around the whole battlefield, and these monsters are great helpers when you need to leave some defenders in an area you’ve already cleared. You can have up to 24 monsters on the field at any time! Who says monsters can’t be your friends, right Healix?

Another cool aspect of DRAGON QUEST HEROES is the tension gauge. We covered this a little bit in the last blog when we talked about Gigantes, but here’s a few more details about it works. As you hit the monsters you’ll be building up your tension until the gauge is full. Once it is, you can activate your high tension, and then it’s time for the fireworks! Your hero turns an awesome shade of pink and gets really fast and powerful! While you’re crackling with all that pink energy, you can activate a super awesome attack called the “coup de grâce” that’s going to make those monsters sorry they ever messed with you! Did you know that’s French for “Blow of mercy?”  Each character can unleash their own unique and flashy coup de grâce, so you can switch to a character with high enough tension to use theirs whenever you can!

Finally, we’ve got an alchemy system that’s become quite a recognizable part of the DRAGON QUEST series... As you adventure, you’ll find plenty of materials and recipes for better weapons, equipment, and items. Find the items in the recipes to create new accessories and then strengthen them by synthesizing them!

Okay, I’ll close this off with something I think you’ll really like. Here’s our newest trailer, called the DRAGON QUEST HEROES: The World Tree’s Woe and the Heroes You Know trailer! Too epic! This trailer will introduce you to all the heroes from across the DRAGON QUEST series that you can play as in DRAGON QUEST HEROES!

And don’t forget, the DRAGON QUEST HEROES demo is out there at a retailer near you on their PS4 kiosks! Head into the stores, give it a try, and pre-order the game to get your five free DLC slime weapons in the Day One Edition! See you next time!
