FINAL FANTASY XVI out now on PC

Clive Rosfield’s Eikonic adventure is out now on PC. Here's everything you need to know!

Let’s start with the big news: FANTASY XVI is out now on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store!

Read on, and we’ll tell you everything you need to know about the PC version, including the DLC episodes, and the demo. First though, we should introduce the game itself:

What is FINAL FANTASY XVI?

FINAL FANTASY XVI is an epic action RPG set in the world of Valisthea - a once glorious land blessed by the light of the mothercrystals, slowly becoming plagued by the Blight. This phenomenon causes lifeless deadlands to spread across the land - and as the land has weakened, so has the relative peace between nations.

The fate of the land is decided by the Eikons - the most powerful and deadly creatures in Valisthea. Each one resides within a single man or woman who are able to call upon them and wield their power. These people are called Dominants; both revered and feared by the nations of the world.

You play as Clive Rosfield - firstborn son to the Duke of Rosaria, and older brother of Joshua Rosfield - the Dominant of the Phoenix. Clive acts as protector to his powerful but sickly sibling, but his life is changed forever following a sudden attack on his home, and the emergence of a new Eikon: Ifrit.

This devastating event sets Clive on a dangerous journey of revenge… one that will change him and Valisthea forever.

As Clive, you’ll follow this gripping story, while taking on hordes of foes in thrillingly fast and responsive real-time combat. Our hero is able to call on the power of the Eikons, as he earns them, giving him access to an enormous selection of offensive and defensive abilities from pounding foes with a giant stony fist, to scalding them in searing flames.

And, of course, when Dominants face off, an Eikonic clash will ensue. You’ll take direct control of Ifrit in these massive battles - they’re exciting, impactful and a true spectacle!

It’s a thrilling rollercoaster of a game - and now PC players can enjoy it too!

Can you start with FINAL FANTASY XVI?

If you’ve never played a FINAL FANTASY game before, you may be thinking: can I start with the sixteenth game?? The short answer that you can, and you should.

The longer, more useful answer is that every mainline FINAL FANTASY game is a standalone adventure with its own unique world, characters, story and gameplay mechanics. If it helps, don’t think of it as the sixteenth FINAL FANTASY game, but as the first FINAL FANTASY XVI.

So, yes you can start with any game, and FINAL FANTASY XVI makes for a great entry point. It has a mature story, superb combat and tons of spectacle. If that appeals, start with XVI!

Echoes of the Fallen, DLC chapter - the discovery of an artificial mothercrystal leads Clive to the treacherous Sagespire, a ruin of the mysterious, and long since gone, Fallen civilization. It’s an action-packed ascent to the top that features some truly spectacular boss fights!
The Rising Tide, DLC chapter - Clive and his allies are drawn into a new adventure involving the hidden village of Haven, and the lost Eikon of Water: Leviathan! This is a longer adventure that takes you to a brand-new area with blue skies, new quests, new accessories, weapons and - uh-oh - tonberries aplenty!

The FINAL FANTASY XVI demo

If you want to try the game first, a free demo is also available now! It lets you play through the prologue, which puts you into the well-appointed shoes of a younger Clive as the specter of war threatens the peaceful kingdom of Rosaria.

You’ll get to take on a daring mission to a goblin-infested village and face off against a spectacular boss - one that FINAL FANTASY fans may well recognize. You’ll also experience the tragic events that forge Clive into the hardened hero he’ll ultimately become.

It’s a lengthy section, full of twists and turns, and with lots of exhilarating action. Even better, you’ll be able to carry your progress over to the full game and continue the story.

The demo also includes a special Trial mode, which you can play once you’ve completed the opening prologue. It gives you a chance to explore more of Clive’s awesome Eikonic abilities. Progress for this section doesn’t carry over to the full game - it’s just a chance to experiment with the combat, take on some super-fun foes and enjoy some frenetic fights!
