Everything you need to know about the Outriders Demo

The free Outriders demo is out now on PC and consoles! While you wait for it to download, let us reveal some of the things you can expect.
Di Toby Palm

We've just released the Outriders Demo and I wanted to drop by to share a few things that might pique your interest.

You can download it while you read this blog - here are the links!

First things first - Part of our guiding philosophy with Outriders is to be as transparent as possible. So, if you have any questions, let us know on social media and we'll answer as much as we're able to!

Now let's get into it shall we?

It's free! No pre-order or waiting list required

You don't need to pre-order Outriders or register on a website somewhere. Just download it and you're good to go!

It's not a Beta

This is the Outriders Demo. Yep - that's right. A Demo. Not a Beta.

That means that this Demo will remain available indefinitely, can be played without time restrictions and that it has been designed specifically to show you what to expect in the full game. In fact... it is the start of the full game!

It's the opening chapter in full

Rather than drop you into the middle of the game with little context, we felt it was important for you to experience the story, tutorials and mechanics as they are introduced in the game. This means that you will be able to experience the full set up to the narrative and lore of Outriders.

We'd recommend not rushing through everything or skipping cutscenes if you plan to get invested in the Outriders storyline and universe. (Psst - if you like your lore, we talked a bit about it here.

It’s about three hours in length... per Class

All in, the demo is comprised of the prologue, a few main story missions, a handful of side quests and a boss encounter. Everyone can experience the Outriders demo at their own pace, and we estimate that average playtimes may take two to three hours. Per class. Meaning you can do it all again with a new class if you'd like to see how they handle the trials of this chapter.

We recommend exploring far and wide if you want to uncover the secrets of Enoch and prepare for the journey ahead.

Outriders includes four Classes. You'll have access to them all.

Once you complete the prologue, you'll be able to choose one of the four classes: Trickster. Pyromancer. Devastator. Technomancer. Not sure which one is right for you? Our Spotlight Series on each class may help!

We've also written about the various classes here on the Square Enix Blog.

Don't worry though - if you'd like to try a different class at any point, you can just create a new character (you have access to six character slots), skip the prologue and start playing a different class immediately.

Outriders features drop in/drop out Co-op and Crossplay

Once you've picked a class, you'll be able to access multiplayer and join up with your friends - even if they're on a different platform! Just make sure to enable the Crossplay feature within your settings if you want to play with friends on other platforms, as it is disabled by default for the demo. And if your friends aren't online at the moment... no worries! Matchmaking is available within your base camp and can be used to find a party.

Your progress will carry over to the full game

Whenever you're ready to commit to buying the full game, know that the characters you create in the demo and their progress will all be waiting for you in the main game. So make sure to take your time customizing your character!
