FINAL FANTASY XIV Online World Tour: Heavensward
In the lead up to Endwalker, we continue our look through the regions of Hydaelyn that have forged adventurers into heroes. This month, we’re heading Heavensward!Every day takes us one step closer to the release of FINAL FANTASY XIV: Endwalker.
There’s plenty to be excited about - new dungeons, new trials, and new stories to name but a few - but we’re particularly looking forward to exploring even more of Hydaelyn. The new areas coming in the expansion are varied and many… but before we start stomping all over them, we wanted to reminisce about those places we’ve already been.
Last time, we looked at the beautiful Eorzean landscapes of A Realm Reborn. Today, we head into Heavensward- an expansion that added new regions the Warriors of Light to explore.
Coerthas
The snow-covered highlands of Coerthas have scale… and scales. The Dragonsong War between the Holy See of Ishgard and the Dravanian Horde has been raging for millennia, and its effects can be seen all over this frigid land.
The Holy See of Ishgard
Previously closed to outsiders, the Holy See of Ishgard opened its gates to adventurers in FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward. From the battle-scarred streets of the Foundation to the affluent plazas of the Pillars, it’s a must-visit destination in Coerthas.
The Coerthas Central Highlands
If you’re after challenge and adventure, the Coerthas Central Highlands are the place to go. One of the largest regions in Eorzea, its icy expanses are home to many impressive sights and sites, including the fort of Camp Dragonhead, the imposing mountain known as The Nail, and the grand Monument Tower.
And who could forget the First Dicasterial Observatorium of Aetherial and Astrological Phenomena? …not anyone who’s had to say it, that’s for sure.
The Coerthas Western Highlands
The Coerthas Western Highlands are stark and remote - only those who can take to the skies will see what lies beyond these snow-capped peaks. And what a sight they are - you’ll see everything from the remains of the Dreaming Dragon to one still bound by chains.
Dravania
Situated west of Coerthas, the regions of Dravania are far milder in climate, though just as rugged in terrain. There are so many places to discover in the region, from majestic mountains to forests chock full of chocobos.
The Dravanian Forelands
This region is diverse in both scenery and creatures. You can visit the towers of Anyx Trine and the dragons who roost there, meet the insect-like Gnath at Loth ast Gnath, observe wild chocobos in the Chocobo Forest, and more!
The Dravanian Hinterlands
Fed by the mighty Thaliak River, the Dravanian Hinterlands are a lush and verdant region that’s become home to many former glories. A once mighty city-state now stands empty, save for adventurers, treasure hunters and a few more dangerous denizens, but its architectural wonders remain, begging to be explored.
Abalathia's Spine
A great mountain range that spans the length of a continent, Abalathia hides many secrets - a sprawling landmass of islands, secret mechanical marvels and more.
The Sea of Clouds
High above the towering peaks lies the Sea of Clouds. The floating mass of islands is only accessible by airship, but it’s worth the journey because the views are simply spectacular. The knights of Camp Cloudtop may think it’s a tedious posting, but with plenty of dangerous monsters, and the Vanu Vanu beast tribe, there’s plenty to keep a traveler busy.
Azys Lla
The floating continent of Azys Lla is a place of surprise and mystery. Raised into the skies millennia ago, and hidden from the eyes of the world, the technology of the land continues to operate even today.
We hope you enjoyed this brief tour across (and over) Eorzea. Heavensward expanded FINAL FANTASY XIV Online in spectacular style, creating an even richer, more imaginative world.
If you’re a seasoned traveler of Hydaelyn you’ll no doubt look on these areas with fondness, but for those new to the game, it’ll be a real thrill to explore these locations. And every player can do it now that Heavensward is included in all editions of FINAL FANTASY XIV as standard - even the free trial!
The next expansion, FINAL FANTASY XIV: Endwalker releases November 23, and looks like it’s going to be out of this world. And we mean that literally - one of the new regions is the moon!
