Get ready for a brand new adventure filled with unforgettable heroes, beautiful landscapes and some of the most exciting action RPG combat out there. Trials of Mana is out now for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Steam!

What’s more, anyone who buys the game before May 21, 2020 will get the Rabite Adornment - a special in-game item allows you to gain more experience from battles up to level 10.

What is Trials of Mana?

The new game is a full remake of 1995’s Trials of Mana - or Seiken Densetsu 3 as it’s known in Japan. While the game was a critical hit in Japan, it didn’t receive a Western release until last year, when it was included in the Switch compilation Collection of Mana.

You’ll take control of three playable characters from a selection of six - each with their own skills, strengths and stories. Depending on who you go with, the narrative will play out in different ways.

Every character is unique, with their own strengths and skills. You can choose between:

  • Duran - a skilled swordsman from the Kingdom of Valsena. When he is unable to defend his home, he vows to become stronger.

  • Angela - the daughter of the True Queen of Altena, the snow-covered kingdom of magicians. Her weakness at magic is a source of embarrassment for her mother. When her mother and the Crimson Wizard try to force her to sacrifice herself, her power finally emerges.

  • Kevin - heir to the throne of the Kingdom of Ferolia, the land of Beastmen. He was raised as a fighting machine by his father, but a friendship with a wolf pup named Karl melts his icy heart.

  • Charlotte - the granddaughter of Wendel's Priest of Light. Her sheltered life and elfin blood makes her seem younger than she is.

  • Riesz - a princess of Laurent, and the leader of the Amazon Guard. Although strong, she’s also compassionate and dedicated to her family.

  • Hawkeye - a fast-thinking thief from the desert fortress of Nevarl. Despite a laid-back attitude, he's as skilled as he is loyal to his friends.

Regardless of who you pick, you’ll travel around a vast, visually striking world, filled with secrets to discover and enemies to battle with the game’s fast-paced, fluid and strategically-rich battle system.

You’ll also use the brand new Abilities system to upgrade your chosen heroes with magic spells, useful stat bonuses, and more. It’s a system with a ton of flexibility, and with more than 300 Abilities to unlock, you’ll be able to build the characters you want.

That’s not the only thing that’s new - the remake also includes additional story and even a new class for each character.

And speaking of the characters…

Which characters should you start the game with?

You may be wondering - which of our compelling cast should you select for your maiden adventure?

The correct answer, of course, is… any of them. Each one is distinct in their own way, and we’re confident that you’ll have a good time with whoever you pick.

That said, if you’re still struggling to decide, then there a few cool little things you can use to help make your decision.

For example, earlier this week we released a new Instagram filter that lets you display which Trials of Mana character you are right onto your snaps. You can use that to help you pick a character.

Alternatively, you can try the Trials of Mana personality quiz. Just answer a few simple questions, and you’ll be matched with a character that reflects your personality. Plus you can unlock exclusive Avatars to use on the Square Enix website.

There’s also a demo available, which lets you play through the opening section of the game with any combination of characters. What’s more, your progress carries over to the main game.

Trials of Mana is available now on Switch, PS4 and PC. It’s available physically from retailers including the Square Enix Store, and digitally through each platform’s respective store.

We hope you enjoy your new adventures through this beautiful and dangerous world. To stay up to date with news and information about the game, make sure you follow on social media - and let us know which characters you chose with the hashtag #TrialsofMana.
