Also announced was Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven. It’s a full remake of the acclaimed original - a non-linear RPG adventure where you don’t control just one protagonist, but multiple generations!

FANTASIAN Neo Dimension was revealed too! This enhanced version of FINAL FANTASY creator Hironobu Sakaguchi’s acclaimed RPG arrives on consoles and PC this winter.

Read on, and we’ll discuss what to expect from each of these tantalizing titles.

DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake release date revealed

It’s one of the most beloved RPGs ever made - and the most influential too (as you’ll know if you’ve read or watched our ‘Games That Made Us’ series). It places you in the boots of a young hero who must travel the world to defeat the Archfiend Baramos.

You’ll recruit a party to help you take on dangerous monsters in tactical, turn-based battles.

The game’s been fully remade in the HD-2D visual style made famous by games such as OCTOPATH TRAVELER I and II, TRIANGLE STRATEGY and LIVE A LIVE. It fuses expressive sprites with modern 3D graphics to create a look that feels both modern and nostalgic at the same time.

As you can see from the screenshots and trailer, it gives the game a beautiful look that’s bright, vibrant and - most importantly - recognizably DRAGON QUEST III.

The game has also been enhanced with new features and quality- of- life improvements that make it feel up-to-date. If you’ve never played the series before, it’s the perfect jumping on point, while long-time fans will be able to experience one of the crown jewels of the series in a brand-new way!

DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake announced

The first two DRAGON QUEST games in the series are also getting HD-2D versions in 2025!

Those of you not well versed in all things DRAGON QUEST may be wondering: why are these games coming after DRAGON QUEST III? Well, the first three games form a trilogy, with DRAGON QUEST III as the first chronologically!

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven

In a land plagued by fiends, an ancient legend tells of the coming of seven great heroes who rose to save their ravaged kingdoms.

One fateful day, Avalon, the capital of the Varennes Empire, is brutally attacked by none other than Kzinssie - one of these fabled heroes. In the chaos, the noble heir to the throne, Prince Victor, is slain. His father, Emperor Leon, swears revenge on the Seven and their mighty powers, and uses fabled ‘inheritance magic’, bestowed by a seeress, to pass his power down to his other son Gerard - trading his own life.

Thus begins an epoch-spanning struggle as generations of emperors face off against the might powers of the Seven Heroes.

It’s an intriguingly unique setup for an RPG - you don’t just play as one protagonist or group of protagonists. Instead, you’ll follow the adventure across generations, with different heirs taking on the mantle of the Emperor and inheriting their predecessors’ power.

In this full 3D remake of the 1993 RPG originally released in Japan, you’ll explore immersive 3D environments and take on hordes of fiends in fast-paced and strategic turn-based combat. Everything great about the SaGa franchise, such as its non-linear storytelling and innovative progression systems is present and correct but reworked to be more accessible with newly added difficulty options and various improvements to the game mechanics.

The game has been developed by the team behind Trials of Mana, and also features both rearranged and original soundtracks by the legendary Kenji Ito (known for his work on the SaGa franchise, Mana franchise and more), and Japanese and English voiceovers.

Long-time SaGa fans will love it, but it’s also the most approachable game in the franchise yet. If you’ve been craving a classic-style RPG - or are just curious about what SaGa is all about - put this on your radar now.
