FINAL FANTASY Spotify playlists to suit any mood

From the best of the battle themes to chilled out tracks for some rest and relaxation, we’ve built a playlist for every occasion
By Duncan Heaney

A few weeks ago, we added dozens of FINAL FANTASY albums onto major streaming services. Subscribers now have access to game soundtracks, orchestral arrangements and more.

The thing is… there’s a lot of FINAL FANTASY music out there. Like… a lot. With so many amazing tracks to listen to, where do you even start?

Well, allow us to help. We’ve created a series of FINAL FANTASY playlists for Spotify that should suit any mood you may have.

Heading off on a journey? The Drive playlist will keep things moving. Feeling weepy? We’ve collected some of the most emotional tracks in one place. Or if you need a pick me up… hey, there’s a playlist for that too.

Here they are - simply click the link at the bottom of each to listen on Spotify.

Drive

Sometimes you just want to channel your inner Noctis (or Ignis), jump in the car, and hit the road - all, of course, accompanied by some awesome driving music.

That’s exactly what this playlist offers. It’s a collection of tracks that emphasize movement and momentum. It’s all here - airship themes from FINAL FANTASY IV and beyond, soundscapes like FINAL FANTASY XIII’s The Sunleth Waterscape and action themes like FINAL FANTASY VIII’s The Man with the Machine Gun to name by a few. There may even be a hint of Chocobo in there too…

Unfortunately we can’t supply you with your own Regalia, but this collection of music will still make every journey something to look forward to.

Fight

FINAL FANTASY’s amazing battle themes can’t help but get the blood pumping - and his playlist gathers together many of the most adrenaline-inducing.

It covers everything from FINAL FANTASY VII’s iconic Let The Battles Begin! to pulse-pounding modern themes like FINAL FANTASY XV’s Veiled in Black. It even has room for some quirkier - but still epic - tracks like FINAL FANTASY IX’s Festival of the Hunt.

If you’re in need of motivation, this action-packed playlist will hype you up and make you feel ready to take on any situation.

Relax

Kick off your shoes, sit back and let this peaceful playlist wash over you like a cleansing balm.

This set of tracks is all about relaxation. You’ll hear melodic character themes like Vanille’s Theme and Rydia, pleasant location tracks like FINAL FANTASY BRAVE EXVIUS’ Peaceful Village, calming tunes like FINAL FANTASY XIV Online’s Where The Heart is or FINAL FANTASY XV’s quietly upbeat Bros on the Road.

We all live busy lives, but it’s good to take a break every now and then and just enjoy a moment of peace and reflection. Hopefully, this music will help you do that.

Cry

Amid the battles and Bahamuts, FINAL FANTASY can be an incredibly emotive series - and that’s reflected in the music.

This playlist features some of the most emotionally-charged tracks in the series, such as the plaintive piano of FINAL FANTASY X’s Zanarkand, the melancholy guitar of A Flower Blooming in the Slums (CRISIS CORE - FINAL FANTASY VII), and the sad strings of A Forlorn Heart (FINAL FANTASY TYPE-0).

There’s much more, of course, and it’s some of the most powerful videogame music ever written. So put on some headphones, pick this playlist and just… let the tears flow freely. It’s cathartic!

Cheer up!

You shouldn’t wallow in misery forever - and if you listen to this playlist, you’ll find it’s impossible to anyway.

The Up! playlist is full of tracks that will simply make you happy. It highlights the sheer joy that the series inspires - moments of triumph, wonderful characters, and even those silly bits that can’t help but raise a smile.

It’s an eclectic mix to be sure. Among the mix you’ll hear bouncy ragtime of FINAL FANTASY VI’s Spinach Rag, the childlike (and unambiguously-named) Happy Melody from World of FINAL FANTASY, and Penelo’s Theme - a fun track as upbeat and bouncy as the FINAL FANTASY XII hero herself.

We hope you enjoy these playlists. If you’d prefer to dig more into the music of FINAL FANTASY, check out our article: Explore the history of FINAL FANTASY through its music to find links to each FINAL FANTASY soundtrack on Spotify, Amazon Music and Apple Music.
