Square Enix Introduces #Pride Mascot

Each year the LGBTQ+ community and people all over the world celebrate Pride during the month of June. In year’s past, our employees have marched alongside others in support of intersectional equality, dignity and inclusion.

This year, with parades and celebrations side-lined due to the coronavirus pandemic, we wanted to do something special to honour the LGBTQ+ community and show our support.

We’d like you to meet our new Pride mascot.

This charming new character was designed by legendary artist, Toshiyuki Itahana. Square Enix fans will recognise Itahana’s beautiful art style from games such as FINAL FANTASY IX, FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES, the Chocobo’s Dungeon titles, as well as illustrations for the FINAL FANTASY TRADING CARD GAME (FFTCG) and much more.

According to Itahana, this mascot is meant to be more than just a colourful character:

“The character represents diversity and freedom, with its multitude of colours being the diversity aspect and the trainers and wings that allow it to travel anywhere symbolizing freedom. I designed this character hoping that the world can become even more free and diverse in the future.”

We hope you’ll embrace our new Pride mascot together with us, and what it represents.

If you’d like, we’ve created an avatar of our Pride Mascot that you can update your social media profile with as well.

Thank you.
