What are vocations in DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake?
If you’re new to DRAGON QUEST III, you may be wondering: what are vocations and personalities in the context of the game?
Every character in your party, including your protagonist, has a vocation. This determines their role in battle, and the abilities they can learn - similar (conceptually at least) to the jobs in games like FINAL FANTASY I, V or XIV.
For example, a Mage will learn powerful magic spells, while a Priest learns healing and support magic. When you start the game, you’ll build a party of allies, selecting their vocation from the many options in the game:
- Hero (exclusive to the protagonist)
- Warrior
- Mage
- Martial Artist
- Priest
- Merchant
- Gadabout
- Thief
- Monster Wrangler
Rumor has it that you can even find a very special vocation: Sage. Of course, getting this might require some investigation on your part in the game...
There’s a lot of fun to be had exploring all these different vocations, and you can mix and match your party however you see fit. There’s even a location where you change vocations… if you can find it, of course.
Personalities
As well as vocations, every party member in the game - hero included - are assigned a personality. There are a dizzying number of personalities in the game, including: earnest, reserved, elegant, alluring, aggressive and many more. This personality affects the rate of growth of different attributes.
As for your hero’s personality… that’s up to you. Much like our vocations quiz, you’ll be given a series of questions, and a short test. At the end, you’ll find out what kind of person you really are.
